audition last night!

I went to INTO THE WOODS auditions last night!
I heard that Eight O'Clock Theatre would be holding auditions, so of course I planned to go!
I knew this time I could NOT sing "Many A New Day" from Oklahoma... again. Ha!
Because I did not want to play Cinderella... again.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE that role, but my *goal* has always been to play Cinderella, The Baker's Wife, and The Witch sometime before I die!
Also, it was time to change up on an audition song, because I had been singing "Many A New Day" since my last INTO THE WOODS auditions in 2003!
So... I knew I wanted to song to be Sondheim. I opened one of my books of random broadway sheet music and immediately choose to sing "Being Alive" from Company. (I really need to ask Santina what she sang for our WOODS auditions, because it might have been that!)
So, I rehearsed alone for a while. Luckily I have a keyboard here and can play a melody on a piano! I wish I had my own voice teacher that would just come over whenever I had an audition and work with me.
But, I was alone and singing the last 18 bars of this song ain't easy. I tried not to get discouraged.
So, about the audition: All in all there were about 90 people (both nights combined), which is just a little less than last time I auditioned for this show, so I was not surprised.
I go in to sing - oh... I had just auditioned for this director maybe a month or so ago... and did not get a part - but, he remembered me, which was nice. Then I had to restart my song! But, it was right at the beginning, so it wasn't too bad. I was just a little embarrassed - never had to do that before. But, then I think I really nailed it. I think. It's almost like you can't remember after an audition. "I think I did well..." Who the hell knows?!
So, after we all sang, we all went in to read together. We were warned that not everyone would get to read. I read for the Baker's Wife and really wanted to read for the Witch, but wasn't asked. There weren't any girls that read more than once.
After the readings the director asked 5 people to stay (by the way, he doesn't hold callbacks! so this was it!)... I was asked to stay!
2 girls before me were asked to sing for Little Red and Cinderella. Then he asked me to sing The Witch! I was shocked because I had read for The Baker's Wife.
So, I knew exactly what part he was pointing out for me to sing - the part after Rapunzel dies - after the Witch freaks out and sings, "No matter what you say... children won't listen..."
I sang it once and then he asked me to sing it again... internally, sadly...
I did and it was one of the better experiences I have ever had at an audition. He said it was just what he wanted. I was just so happy I followed his direction well.
So.................................. now I wait. I wait to hear if I got anything!
I am trying not to get my hopes up. These people don't know me! Why would they cast me as a lead? But, then again Santina and I got Cinderella & The Witch in a production where no-one knew us... you never know.
Either way I feel very happy about my audition. If I don't get anything I will be dissapointed. There is something about INTO THE WOODS. It's like a cult favorite. If you love it, you LOVE it. Kris Doubles also auditioned, as well as some of our other friends. I wish we could all do the show together!
So, we shall see!
I thought about Santina a lot last night. If I were lucky enough to get the Witch I would be scared. Her shoes are hard to fill. I just hope she would be proud of me.
