i like to think i see the world as ever changing.
i like to think i see the world as full of possibility.
i like to think i don't judge the world.
i bring this up because i overhear many a conversation in my classrooms.
long before the professor arrives to teach us "truth" a know-it-all loud mouth
is speaking his or her "truth" .
the "truth" is that what one speaks is their own personal reality.
OPEN your mind. isn't that why you're in school in the first place?
i consider myself an extremist in MANY ways: i am an all or nothing girl a lot of the time.
BUT, i do not generalize & i do not set my mind a certain way about other people & society.
this is hard to explain. maybe this will help:
the girl that sits infront of me gets someone to listen to her long enough so that SHE can talk "intellectually" about Hemmingway. i am ALL about intellectual talk. i get off on it, BUT... she's the judgmental know-it-all generalizer. ugh.
she started off by saying something to the effect of "i hate his female characters" and rambled on about how "weak" they are. (meanwhile, she thinks she's "strong" for having a loud mouth opinion. "feminist" should be tatooed on her chest, just for the irony of it all!)
i'm not sure which novel she was speaking of in particular, but she said these words (i jotted them down in class as i OFTEN do when i hear a student speak and it strikes me, good or bad):
"'Oh, Darling! Oh, Darling!' No matter what time period nobody talks that way. Nobody."
I TALK THAT WAY. That's what i wanted to say. If you know me, you know i use the word "darling". it's endearing. it's sweet and sincere.
ok, nevermind ME! OTHER people use it too & have for years.
this isn't a MAJOR deal, but it does bother. who are these unpassionate, arrogant people?
this story also reminded me of another pet peeve: feminism.
i feel as if i am betraying my libra heritage by saying this, but psycho femisints need to CHILL.
i am a GIRL... a WOMAN. i may not seem "traditional" to most of my friends, but i am!
i secretly want someone to take care of me, a protector (so important), and a "man of the house".
i want to (one day... NOT TODAY) have babies & be the best wife and mother i can be.
don't get me wrong, i LOVE being a woman. i LOVE that we can vote & one day our pay checks might equal that of our male counterparts, but you probably won't catch me marching in a parade (unless it's the Gay Pride Parade!)...
i would, however burn my bra! woo hoo! let's get naked!
i mean...
i like to think i see the world with an open mind.
